The 5 stars that won Twitter at the 2016 Met Gala
May 3 2016The 2016 Met Gala has been burning up our Twitter feeds today. As one of the most iconic events of the fashion world, the event always attracts a lot of attention, and this year’s “Fashion in the age of Technology” theme was particularly popular. We took a look at which celebrity outfits were turning heads on social media.
We used the Visibrain Quicktrends tool to compare mention volumes around the stars present at the Met Gala, to see who was attracting the most mentions out of the 3.8 million tweets sent since yesterday.
1 - Claire Danes - 182,836 mentions
Claire Danes was well and truly the star of the Met Gala with that dress:

The star’s name was mentioned 182,836 times in association with the #MetGala:
The dress was a piece by Zac Polsen, and the designer certainly gained a lot of publicity from the Met Gala appearance: if we look at mentions around Zac Polsen in the days before and after the Met Gala, we can see the huge boost in the number of mentions around the designer:
2 - Beyoncé - 166,698 mentions
As a true pop superstar, Beyoncé attracts attention wherever she goes, and the Met Gala was no exception:

3 - Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid - 115,968 mentions

Although their outfits were certainly avant-garde, it’s entirely possible that most of the buzz around the pair came from the fact that they were making their first red carpet appearance as a couple.

We may all be used to seeing Lady Gaga in some pretty unusual clothes, but she still attracted 88,104 tweets:
5 - Blake Lively - 45,989 mentions
Blake Lively is in fifth place in terms of tweet volumes, the actress appeared in a beautiful if comparatively conservative gown:

Rumours of a possible pregnancy may have contributed to Lively’s popularity on Twitter, gaining her 45,989 tweets:
The actress only just beat singer and Gala co-host Taylor Swift in terms of tweet volumes.
