Cannes Lions : Top Twitter stats for 2015
June 30 2015Cannes Lions 2015 is officially over. This year’s international festival of creativity celebrated some truly inspiring campaigns and insights from top players in the advertising industry. #CannesLions has been all over Twitter for the past week, racking up 304,302 tweets between June 19th and June 27th.
Using the Visibrain Twitter monitoring platform, we can look back on the top tweets, topics and influencers of Cannes Lions 2015.

So who was doing the talking at Cannes Lions? Out of 118,154 users, the top influencers based on their overall number of retweets were:
1 - Tham Khai Meng @ThamKaiMeng: Worldwide Chief Creative Officer of Ogilvy & Mather - 7,117 retweets
2 - Keith Curtin @KFCurtin: National Sales Director at Blippar - 5,288 retweets
3 - Scott Cullather @scullather: Founder & Global Managing Partner at inVNT agency - 5,158 retweets
In spite of not being the user with the highest audience (which was Twitter with 41,488,706 followers), Ogilvy & Mather achieved the highest number of retweets with their “Inspire series” posts. The agency regularly tweeted inspirational quotes from historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln throughout Cannes Lions, which proved to be incredibly popular.
The top three most retweeted posts shown below came from @Ogilvy, who won by a landslide with 14,294 retweets, followed by @ThamKaiMeng with 5,794 and @KFCurtin with 5,193.
If we take a look at which users got the most mentions, the top influencers mentioned above stand out. However, we can also spot Media accounts such as @Adweek, outside companies such as @crowdmix, and speakers such as @Pharrell and @jamieoliver, who made quite an impression during their respective appearances.

What got people tweeting at Cannes Lions?
It seems that the Ogilvy & Mather Inspire Series stole the show again. If we look at the most commonly used hashtags in #CannesLions tweets, we can see below that the Inspire series features prominently: #ogilvycannes and #inspire appear among the top ten hashtags used during the event.
Surprisingly, the campaigns being honored at Cannes Lions weren’t among the most tweeted subjects. The only prize-winning campaign to appear among the top hashtags is #LikeaGirl, the brand campaign from Always, which was tweeted 1,156 times.
As with the hashtags, top expressions for the event were dominated by the Ogilvy & Mather Inspire series. Expressions from the inspirational posts constitute 50% of the most commonly used expressions in tweets.
Even the top links of the event lead back to the Inspire series. Congratulations to Ogilvy & Mather for their high-impact campaign.
Even a few days after the end of the event, Twitter activity hasn’t died down completely. Since June 27th, there have been 29,219 tweets about Cannes Lions, recapping top moments and prize-winning campaigns.
Well, that’s it for Cannes Lions 2015. All there is left to do is sweep up the party streamers, take an aspirin, and wait for next year.
