E3 2016: The top 10 games that got high scores on Twitter

The 2016 edition of E3 is still going strong. The E3 press conferences bring together the biggest names in the industry for the announcement of their new releases: a much-anticipated event for fans. The Visibrain media monitoring platform collected data from the biggest gaming event of the year to find out which of the new games were driving conversations on Twitter.

The top 10 most-tweeted games for E3 so far:

To obtain the list below, we compared tweet volumes around new games at E3 during the press conferences between the morning of Sunday June 12th and the evening of Wednesday June 15th:

1. Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 383,201 mentions

Nintendo blew fans away with their announcement of the new Legend of Zelda. The game was the most discussed on Twitter by far.

2. FIFA 17: 310,281 mentions

In second place is the massively popular FIFA franchise with over a quarter of a million mentions, which is bringing out its 17th edition this year.

3. Battlefield 1: 237,334 mentions

In third place is EA’s Battlefield 1, predicted to be one of the top FPS of the year.

4. God of War: 173,261 mentions

The God Of War 4’s father/son storyline attracted a lot of interest, bringing the game into 4th place.

5. Skyrim: 149,214 mentions

In spite of there being no new Fallout this year, Bethesda managed to get fans worked up with the announcement of the remastering of classic RPG Skyrim.

6. Resident Evil 7: 144,600 mentions

The upcoming release of the new Resident Evil racked up over 140,000 tweets, as fans were promised a scarier experience than ever before.

7. Death Stranding: 142,013 mentions

Hideo Kojima’s enigmatic teaser trailer for Death Stranding intrigued fans. The true meaning of the trailer was a hot topic at E3, bringing the game into fifth place.

8. Titan Fall 2: 134,177 mentions

EA is back again at number 6 with Titan Fall 2.

9. Pokémon Sun & Moon: 124,027 mentions

Although it was somewhat overshadowed by Zelda, Pokémon Sun and Moon was another hot topic for Nintendo at E3, coming in 9th place.

10. Crash Bandicoot: 107,323 mentions

Sony played the nostalgia card with the announcement that Crash Bandicoot was due to be remastered, getting them a standing ovation at their conference.

Over 1 million tweets for #E32016

E3 scored 1,535,516 tweets for the #E32016 hashtag alone between Sunday and Wednesday night.

As the biggest gaming event of the year, E3 attracted global attention: while the majority of tweets were sent from the United States (36%), hundreds of thousands of people were following the event from the UK (12.2%), Spain (7.9%) and France (5.5%).
